WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS could secure their Premier League survival on Saturday with two games to spare, if they can end a barren goalscoring run at home which is nearing seven hours.

A David Jones goal on 10 February was enough to give Wolves a surprise double over Tottenham Hotspur, but since that strike on 26 minutes, Mick McCarthy’s men have failed to hit the back of the net at Molineux against Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton and Stoke City.

In fact, prior to that crucial win, Mick McCarthy’s men had also failed to score in their previous three home games in the Premier League, against Liverpool, Wigan Athletic and Manchester City, to go with other home blanks against Birmingham City, Portsmouth and West Ham United.

Despite this woeful record, Wolves will fancy their chances of finally adding to their tally of just ten goals at home, the worst in the division, when Blackburn Rovers visit on Saturday afternoon in a game which could see them cement their top-flight status.

Sam Allardyce, who grew up a Wolves fan in Dudley, has seen his side win just twice on the road all season, but with one of the best home records in the Premier League, safety has long been assured and he has now set his sights on an unlikely top-ten finish.

That would herald a remarkable season of progress for the Ewood Park club, but if Kevin Doyle and co discover their goalscoring touch at Molineux this afternoon, they too can boast of a campaign of progress and much satisfaction.
