Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy says he will not rush into making new signings.

Wolves’ Premier League survival was confirmed on Sunday and chief executive Jez Moxey has said that funds will be available to strengthen the team.

«The targets that we’ve got, we’ll try and get, but I’m not in any panic to do it,» McCarthy told BBC WM.

«We’ve got a team that’s survived with two games to go and they’ve got valuable experience this season.»

McCarthy signed seven players – Kevin Doyle, Nenad Milijas, Ronald Zubar, Greg Halford, Andrew Surman, Marcus Hahnemann and Michael Mancienne (on loan from Chelsea) – before the start of the season.

Wolves also captured Segundo Castillo and Stefan Maierhofer before the transfer window closed on 1 September.

«There were some times when players became available that weren’t when we were doing our business,» added McCarthy. «I look back and think that might have been an opportunity lost.»

Meanwhile, Moxey has refused to comment on speculation linking Wolves with a move for Tottenham striker Robbie Keane.

The Republic of Ireland international, 29, has spent three months on loan at Celtic, scoring 14 goals in 15 starts for the Scottish Premier League side.

«I’m not going to get drawn on names and certainly not at this stage,» said Moxey. «We’re looking for better players to try and help this young and hungry team that have done remarkably well this season.

«As always we’re going to have names thrown at us left, right and centre, but he’s certainly done a very good job at Celtic.»

Keane began his career at Molineux, making his debut as a 17-year-old and scoring 29 goals in 88 games before joining Coventry City for £6m in August 1999.

Wolves left-back Stephen Ward will miss the final two games of the season after having more surgery on his knee injury.
